Weaver: Game Over For Ghostbusters, But Sequel Still Possible

Sigourney Weaver is to be replaced by Alyssa Milano on the forthcoming Ghostbusters videogame, but hasn't ruled out returning for a third movie. Without much of a career outside of ghostfighting, it must be music to Dan Aykroyd's ears.

Charmed actress Alyssa Milano has lent her vocals to the forthcoming Ghostbusters videogame after Sigourney Weaver became the only original cast member to not return to the franchise.

Having lost out on Weaver, writer Dan Aykroyd, who wrote the first two movies with Harold Ramis and played 'buster Ray Stanz, had to think quickly on who he was gonna call - and chose Alyssa Milano.

Milano, the former child star of Who's The Boss and the 80s classic Schwarzenegger vehicle Commando, plays the voice of Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn, the brainy guest curator of a "World of Gozer" exhibit at the Natural History Museum.

"Obviously, fans of the movie are going to miss Sigourney Weaver," said Milano after spending a day recording her participation.

Coming twenty-five years after the first film was released, the game is essentially a sequel to the events on Ghostbusters II. And each of the key cast members from the movies has participated by lending their voices - except Weaver.

Yet despite her lack of interest in joining the likes of Murray, Ramis, Hudson and Aykroyd, Weaver hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of returning to make the much-discussed third Ghostbusters movie.

Last December, Weaver admitted she was in talks with Bill Murray about the sequel, although wasn't convinced there was a place for her withn a new script.

“I would hope that my little Oscar would be one of the Ghostbusters even if I’m not in it," the actress explained.

The rest of the cast members have already recorded their participation as the original characters - including Aykroyd, Harold Ramis (Egon), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddmore), Annie Potts (Janine) and even the reluctant Bill Murray (Peter Venkman).

The release is scheduled to June 16 on all computer platforms. As for the movie, watch this space...
